Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Knicks

On the other side of the trade, the Knicks would be getting exactly what they have been searching for. James Harden is the superstar that they could build their franchise around. He would also be able to convince other stars to join him in New York.

The one thing that could make this deal not happen would be Harden’s desire or lack thereof to remain with the Knicks long-term.

At this point in time, Harden has two years left on his contract and a player option on a third year. If he were willing to agree to an extension with the Knicks, this trade would be a go. Should New York not be able to get a long-term promise from the superstar, it would complicate things.

However, being able to join the Knicks might of intriguing for Harden. He would become the face of a storied franchise and could build his legacy. New York is a massive market, which is also something of interest for star players.

New York should go all-in for this trade. If they want to turn things around, they need to find a franchise star. Trading all of the talent they would have to in order to acquire Harden would be well worth it.
