San Antonio Spurs

The one thing the San Antonio Spurs and head coach Greg Popovich pride themselves on is their ability to defend and it has proven useful over the years. Since Popovich became the head coach of the Spurs in 1997, San Antonio has missed the playoffs just once, which was this past season. Over that span, the Spurs won 5 NBA championships and it was all because of their defensive tenacity over the years.

Myles Turner would be a perfect fit in the San Antonio Spurs organization not only because of his defensive skills, but because the Spurs desperately need a reliable big man. The Spurs recently re-signed Jakob Poeltl to a 3-year, $27M contract, but he has never really been reliable early on in his young career. Not only does Turner change this Spurs organization and keep them a winning organization now, but he gives them perhaps their best center since Tim Duncan.

LaMarcus Aldrdige is nearing the end of his career and at 35-years old, the Spurs need to be looking towards the future and which direction this organization is trending towards. As it stands right now, the Spurs are looking at a rebuild, but bringing in Myles Turner changes everything. Aldridge can still give San Antonio valuable minutes late in his career and with DeMar DeRozan and Rudy Gay still playing at a high enough level, Myles Turner can come in and help bring the Spurs back to the playoffs.

The Spurs are not in a bad position as a franchise, but need to bring in another big name player to contend in a loaded Western Conference. DeMar DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge are great players, but neither are All-Star level talents anymore. Myles Turner has the potential to be an All-Star level player if the team he is on is willing to let him be a factor offensively.

San Antonio is notorious for playing through the post and with a player like Myles Turner, the Spurs would have another legit threat to score in the paint paired with Aldridge. Not to mention, Turner can shoot from the perimeter, giving Greg Popovich plenty of options to play around with. If the Spurs want to make a move to bring them back to the playoffs and delay the rebuild, then Myles Turner is the only option that makes sense and fits their system.
