Why This Trade Works for the Dallas Mavericks
Coming off an impressive playoff performance against the Los Angeles Clippers in the NBA playoffs, the Dallas Mavericks are clearly ready to be a perennial playoff team in a loaded Western Conference. Now, the focus is to get more help for Luka Doncic.
The goal of finding an impactful secondary playmaker has not yet been achieved by the Mavericks. There was thought about some particular targets Dallas could pursue, but Kyle Lowry would fit better than each of those options.
There’s a lot to like about the impact that Lowry would provide alongside Doncic. Not only is he a reliable playmaker and shot creator, but he can also make a legitimate defensive impact with his hard-nosed on-ball defense and willingness to do the dirty work.
Not only would the Mavericks be improving offensively, there would be clear growth on defense, too. Overall, Dallas would have an elite backcourt that truly fits together— unlike a combination like James Harden and Russell Westbrook with the Houston Rockets.
