The San Antonio Spurs could be heading in a different direction this offseason. They have veteran players such as DeMar DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge who could be on the move via trade. This is a deal that would give DeRozan a fresh start with the Orlando Magic.
The Spurs are coming off a season where they did not qualify for the playoffs. This is the first time this has happened in 22 years. It is clear that Gregg Popovich is not happy and will look to rebuild his roster very quickly.
DeRozan is not a part of the Spurs’ long-term plan so he could be on the move. Neither side came to an agreement on a multi-year contract this offseason and he is now on an expiring deal. Plus, there have been reports that the star player is unhappy in San Antonio.
As for the Magic, they are a franchise in limbo that could choose to go one of two ways. They are in the middle of the pack in the Eastern Conference so they could choose to either completely rebuild or add superstar talent in hopes of moving up the standings. In this trade, they will take the second option in an attempt to become a contender.
