After much speculation that he could be returning to New York, Carmelo Anthony agreed to a one-year, $2.6 million contract with the Portland Trail Blazers. It is still unknown is if he will play this season in Portland or be moved prior to the opening date. Could the Los Angeles Lakers pursue him via trade to pair him with LeBron James?
Over the course of their careers, Anthony and LeBron James have been close friends but have not been able to get on the same team. With James in Los Angeles, it is possible that the Lakers decide to make a deal to add Anthony to their roster.
The Lakers have made it clear that they want to improve and they have done so this offseason. Anthony would be a depth move and give them a veteran in need of a championship ring before he retires.
Anthony going back to the Knicks would not have made sense for either side. He played well in Portland during the restart and earned himself another year in the league. He should be in search of a title ring and the Lakers are the best team to land with.
If Carmelo Antony is going to end up with the Los Angeles Lakers, this is the deal that could possibly get it done.
