Brooklyn Nets Re-Sign Joe Harris to Four-Year, $75M Contract

The Brooklyn Nets were a team that made a lot of noise last year in free agency when they brought in 2x Finals MVP Kevin Durant and 6x All-Star Kyrie Irving. With those two superstar talents leading the Nets, Brooklyn finds themselves as one of the favorites to win the 2021 NBA Finals.

Joe Harris was one of their main free agents targets the Nets wanted to retain and they did so by locking up Harris for the next four seasons for $75M. The sharpshooting wing shot 42.4% from three-point range last season, ranking him 7th in the league in three-point percentage. The ability to have guys like Harris who can knock down perimeter shots from any spot on the court is extremely valuable in today’s NBA and as a result, the Nets paid him handsomely.

Joe Harris is a big contributor for the Nets success, which is why the Nets gave him $75M over the next four seasons, but without a doubt, overpaid the three-point specialist. Paying any player just below a max contract without being named an NBA All-Star or All-NBA performer is very rare, but possibly the direction we are heading towards for years to come in free agency.

With the demand to have knockdown shooters on the wing in today’s NBA we could see the salaries of 3-and-D players skyrocket, much like the deal Harris got this year. Joe Harris was expected to get close to a three-year, $40M contract this offseason, which is why he and the Nets find themselves on this list. Harris is a great player and his contract is well deserved, but from a financial perspective, the Nets may not have needed to invest as much money in the 6’6” wing as they did this offseason.
