Golden State Warriors Receive: DeMar DeRozan

San Antonio Spurs Receive: Andrew Wiggins, 2021 2nd Round Pick (via MIN), 2021 2nd Round Pick (via DEN)

On the outside looking in, this trade may not seem like a great move for the Warriors. However, there are quite a few reasons that shipping Wiggins out of town for DeRozan would be exactly what the franchise should do.

Wiggins is currently playing on a really rough contract. His presence will restrict what the Warriors can do next offseason. As for the Spurs, they would be acquiring a young player who they can build around and can become their primary scoring option.

Both teams have reasons to pull the trigger on this trade. It may not happen, but if the two teams talked, they would both have to be intrigued.

Let’s take a closer look at why this trade would make perfect sense for both the Warriors and Spurs.
