Bucks, DJ Augustin agree to three-year contract

Shortly after agreeing to terms with Bobby Portis on a two-year contract, the Milwaukee Bucks have made another move. They have agreed to a three-year deal with veteran free agent point guard DJ Augustin.

According to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Bucks have signed Augustin to a three-year, $21 million contract.

Milwaukee has had an up-and-down offseason. It all started with the huge move to acquire star point guard Jrue Holiday from the New Orleans Pelicans. Then, they had an agreement in place with the Sacramento Kings on a sign-and-trade for Bogdan Bogdanovic.

Unfortunately, the deal for Bogdanovic fell through. That left the Bucks with a strong feeling of disappointment, especially on the Giannis Antetokounmpo front.

Everything the Bucks are doing this offseason is in an attempt to convince Antetokounmpo to re-sign long-term. Losing out on Bogdanovic was not a step in the right direction.

Augustin isn’t the kind of guy that will move the needle a ton one way or the other. He will help replace the departures of George Hill and Eric Bledsoe, who were involved in trades. The Bucks are getting a quality veteran guard who can shoot the ball and run an offense.

Last season with the Orlando Magic, Augustin ended up averaging 10.5 points, 4.6 assists, and 2.1 rebounds per game. He shot 39.9 percent from the floor and knocked down 34.8 percent from behind the three-point arc.

DJ Augustin is a solid addition for the Bucks. Whether or not this team can compete for a championship or not, we will have to wait and see. It wouldn’t be shocking to see Milwaukee try to make another move or two before the call it an offseason.
