2. Rajon Rondo
The Los Angeles Lakers decided to trade for Dennis Schroder from the Oklahoma City Thunder— taking away the need for them to re-sign Rajon Rondo. Then the Atlanta Hawks were linked to Rondo as a serious suitor but instead opted to sign Kris Dunn.
Last season, Rajon Rondo appeared in 48 regular season games for the Lakers. He provided averages of 20.5 minutes, 7.1 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists in what was primarily a bench role. He made real sacrifices— averaging by far the fewest minutes per game in a single-season of his NBA career.
The market was supposed to be hotter for Rondo after his impact on the Lakers’ successful NBA championship run. His passing ability proved to be crucial in breaking the Miami Heat’s zone defense while also making positive contributions as a passer and defender in key moments, in general.
There is a real need for the Clippers to improve their talent in the passing department. Adding a floor general like Rajon Rondo would go a long way in helping to elevate Los Angeles’ offense in needed ways— primarily by getting the ball to Kawhi Leonard and Paul George in ideal spots.
