The Sacramento Kings had a key objective at the start of the NBA offseason and got it done— agree to a maximum contract extension with franchise-cornerstone De’Aaron Fox.
According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the contract extension the Kings and Fox agreed to is for five-years and is worth $163 million. The deal has potential to reach $195.6 million super max.
The Kings have made a clear effort to improve during the NBA offseason but will likely lose Bogdan Bogdanovic. However, they added Tyrese Haliburton in the 2020 NBA Draft to potentially replace his impact while still having Buddy Hield on the roster.
The Kings were close to making a run at a playoff spot prior to the suspension of the NBA season in march. However, the team appeared to severely lose the momentum they had established when they resumed play in the bubble.

It remains to be seen if the Kings can keep up with the ascending teams in the Western Conference to compete for a playoff spot. Fox will likely need to continue to raise his game but that would only go so far. At some point, he needs a player like Marvin Bagley to emerge as a star.
During the 2019-20 NBA season, De’Aaron Fox provided the Sacramento Kings with averages of 21.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 6.8 assists. He elevated his game en route to a career-year and will look to continue to build on it going forward.
