The Los Angeles Lakers will have to get creative with how they operate in NBA free agency given their tight salary cap room. That doesn’t mean they won’t be ambitious with their targets— starting with Bogdan Bogdanovic.
According to The Athletic’s Sam Amick, the Lakers are known to be among the suitors for Bogdanovic in NBA free agency. There will be no shortage of competition for Los Angeles to be able to pull off a signing for the former Sacramento Kings guard.
The Lakers already acquired Dennis Schroder in a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder— solidifying their point guard rotation. There is still a need for Los Angeles to add more perimeter shooting options and it would only be a plus if a talent like Bogdanovic with playmaking ability happens.
There isn’t a need for a dynamic perimeter scorer alongside LeBron James since he shoulders a majority of the Lakers’ playmaking responsibility. However, it does help to have a secondary threat to be able to attack other weaknesses in the opposition’s defense.

It remains to be seen how the Lakers would go about actually pulling off a sign-and-trade for Bogdanovic without him taking a considerable discount. He has major ambitions for what he seeks on his next NBA contract—- a number Los Angeles will not be able to accomodate.
A sign-and-trade for Bogdan Bogdanovic would still be difficult for the Los Angeles Lakers to execute since Danny Green’s contract already has been traded. There just doesn’t appear to be a clean pathway to get something done without extreme creativity.
