The Utah Jazz came into the offseason looking to add some talent to their roster, while making sure they retained some as well. Jordan Clarkson hit free agency and the franchise wanted to re-sign him. They have gotten the job done early on in free agency.
According to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Jazz have agreed to a four-year, $52 million contract with Clarkson.
Clarkson played a quality role coming off of the bench for the Jazz last season. He provided a scoring boost, which the Jazz did not want to lose.
During the 2019-20 season with the Jazz, Clarkson ended up averaging 15.2 points per game to go along with 2.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists. He shot 46.2 percent from the floor overall and knocked down 36.6 percent of his three-point attempts.
At 28 years old, sticking with the Jazz is a smart decision for Clarkson. He fits well in the system and has a big role. Leaving a good situation is never a smart move, as many players have found out in free agency in the past.
No reports came out to suggest that another team was going to swoop in and steal Clarkson. The Jazz seem to have been the most interested team in Clarkson from the beginning.
Looking ahead to the 2020-21 season, Jordan Clarkson will once again be a key player for the Jazz. He will likely end up being the sixth man once again. If that is the case, he should continue to flourish in that role and be very happy that he stuck with Utah.
Expect to see the Jazz look to make another move or two this offseason. Derrick Favors has been rumored as a potential target. Only time will tell what else gets done, but keeping Clarkson was a good move.
