The Miami Heat came into NBA free agency hoping to be able to bring back point guard Goran Dragic. Now, it has been reported that they were able to accomplish that goal.
According to a report from Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Heat have agreed to a two-year contract with Dragic. Keeping him in Miami was always the most likely option for both parties involved.
Dragic was a huge part of the success that the Heat found in the NBA Playoffs. He took his game to a new level before suffering an injury in the NBA Finals. Miami wanted to keep him as their starting point guard and got the job done immediately.
In addition to the report of Dragic re-signing, the point guard himself took to Twitter to share the good news.
The Heat will now start focusing on filling out the rest of their roster. News also broke that they have re-signed big man Meyers Leonard. Miami would like to add to the roster they had last season, but the want to keep the majority of that intact.
Last season with the Heat, Dragic ended up averaging 16.2 points per game to go along with 5.1 assists and 3.2 rebounds. He shot 44.1 percent from the floor overall and knocked down 36.7 percent of his three-point attempts. In the playoffs, he averaged 19.1 points per game.
At 34 years old, it is clear that Goran Dragic is focused on bringing another title to the Heat. He loves the franchise and had zero interest in leaving town.
Expect to see the Heat remain active this offseason. They have other moves they would like to make, but getting Dragic locked up was priority number one.
