Blake Griffin close to heading to Nuggets in sign-and-trade?

The Denver Nuggets and Detroit Pistons could be working on a massive blockbuster deal. After the Pistons have agreed to sign both Jerami Grant and Mason Plumlee, it appears that the contracts match up perfectly to facilitate a potential sign-and-trade for Blake Griffin.

John Hollinger of The Athletic was the first to note that the two contracts could conceivably end up sending Griffin to the Nuggets.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN also noted that the deal for Christian Wood with the Houston Rockets is expected to be a sign-and-trade agreement with the Pistons.

Even in the heat of free agency the Pistons are wheeling and dealing. The big thing to keep an eye on is Griffin possibly being moved. It would certainly make sense with the moves that the Pistons have made in the front-court so far in free agency.

Looking at the Nuggets, they are just a piece or two away from an NBA Finals appearance. They were stopped short in 2019-20 by the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Finals. Adding Griffin to play alongside Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray would be very intriguing.

Last season with the Pistons, Griffin struggled with injuries and only played in 18 games. Back in 2018-19, however, Griffin averaged 24.5 points per game to go along with 7.5 rebounds and 5.4 assists. Those numbers and Griffin’s versatility would fit nicely with the Nuggets.

Granted, we are not sure that Blake Griffin is actually going to head to the Nuggets. It’s pure speculation at this point. But, the deals for Plumlee and Grant matchup for a trade involving Griffin is intriguing and notable.

Expect to hear a lot more news coming out in the coming minutes and hours. The free agency frenzy is in full effect right now and the Pistons and Nuggets might be working on something huge.
