NBA scout reveals one familiar name Warriors should bring back

The Golden State Warriors are once again in a world of hurt following the news that Klay Thompson will miss the entire 2020-21 NBA season due to a torn Achilles. Now, they have to figure out how to move forward. Bringing in a piece or two to try and help replace Thompson is a must.

One NBA scout, who asked to remain anonymous, spoke to NBA Analysis Network about a potential name the Warriors should target. Golden State fans will be very familiar with the name that was mentioned.

“No one can replace Klay (Thompson), but the Warriors should look into signing Glenn Robinson III. He’s familiar with the system, could provide defense and an underrated offensive game. Could easily be had for the MLE. Robinson and Draymond Green were close during his time with Golden State.”

Bringing back Glenn Robinson III would make a lot of sense for the Warriors. He could fill the role in the starting lineup left by Thompson. When Thompson returns, Robinson could easily play small forward, which is his natural position.

Last season, the Warriors sent Robinson packing in a trade deadline deal to the Philadelphia 76ers. On the year, Robinson averaged 11.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game.

More than likely, the Warriors would be able to use their mid-level exception to sign Robinson. It could simply be a one-year deal as well. Robinson was good friends with Green, as mentioned above, and the deal would make for an easy transition with the season right around the corner.

At just 26 years old, Robinson has shown off his ability to be a quality 3-and-D type of player. He wouldn’t come close to replacing the offensive production of Thompson, but his defense could come in handy.

Expect to see the Warriors be active in free agency and potentially on the trade market as well. They still have a $17.2 million trade exception to use that expires on November 23rd. No matter what they do, the loss of Thompson is going to leave a major void next season.
