4 perfect free agent targets for the New York Knicks

If you have been a very sad basketball fan for years with virtually nothing good happening to you and your favorite team, you are most likely a fan of the New York Knicks. The Knicks have had seven straight losing seasons and will, once again, find themselves looking to make some noise in free agency, something they have not had a lot of luck in as of recent years.

Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, Chris Paul, LaMarcus Aldridge, Jimmy Butler, and Brook Lopez are all big-name free agents who all passed on opportunities to sign with the Knicks over the years and the organization as a whole has not been able to find any success.

The Knicks have only had one draft pick who went on to become an NBA All-Star over the last decade, Kristaps Porzingis, and they traded him to the Dallas Mavericks for virtually nothing! The Knicks struggles as an organization start from the top with the poor leadership by owner James Dolan and as long as he is in charge, there will never be stability and success with this organization.

Newly appointed President, Leon Rose, and GM Scott Perry are looking to flip the narrative for Knicks’ fans though, and have already started doing so by hiring head coach Tom Thibodeau to a long-term deal. The Knicks have gone through 7 different acting head coaches over the last 10 years and the hiring of Thibodeau is just the latest big-name coach to try and solve the Knicks’ Rubik’s cube.

This offseason, assuming the Knicks decline Bobby Portis’ $15.75M team option, the Knicks will be about $25M under the salary cap and have plenty of room to, once again, go after a big name in the free-agent market. The 2020 free-agent market is not nearly as great as it has been in years past and as a result, the amount of money spent on free agents this offseason will be far less than it has been.

With that being said though, there are still some worthwhile names available via free agency and these are the top four targets for the New York Knicks this offseason.
