The Los Angeles Lakers are looking to make moves this offseason after winning the NBA Finals last year. Rob Pelinka and company know just how hard it is to repeat as champions and they want to improve their roster. That has led to the team deciding to waive Quinn Cook.
That news comes courtesy of a report from Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Cook was not a big part of the championship run last season. While he is not a bad player, he simply wasn’t good enough to carve out a consistent role. Even though he didn’t have a big role, he was still a fan favorite for Lakers fans.
During the 2019-20 NBA season with the Lakers, Cook ended up playing in 44 games and made one start. He averaged 5.1 points per game on the year. Cook is a career 40.7 percent three-point shooter, however, which could help him find a new home.
At 27 years old, Cook should have no issues finding a new team to play for. He is a solid depth piece at the guard position.
Now, it will be interesting to see what the rest of the Lakers’ offseason has in store. They already made a trade to acquire Dennis Schroder from the Oklahoma City Thunder. Los Angeles also still has to re-sign Anthony Davis officially.
Only time will tell what the Lakers will end up doing, but Quinn Cook is no longer a part of the franchise. Don’t be surprised to see him picked up in the next few days with NBA free agency set to begin on Friday.
