Carmelo Anthony expected to return to the New York Knicks

Carmelo Anthony is set to hit the open NBA free agency market this offseason after reviving his career with the Portland Trail Blazers. While there are quite a few teams who could use his services, it appears very possible that Anthony could end up returning to the New York Knicks.

According to a report from Ian Begley of SNY, some opposing teams are currently expecting Anthony to end up signing with the Knicks.

This would make everything come full circle for Anthony. He was a superstar the last time he was with the Knicks, but was traded away after things soured a bit between him and the franchise.

Last season with the Trail Blazers, Anthony signed midway through the season. He ended up averaging 15.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. Anthony shot 43 percent from the floor overall and knocked down 38.5 percent from the three-point line.

At 36 years old, Anthony would not be the superstar that he once was for the Knicks. But, he is still more than capable of being a quality role player or starter.

New York has been swinging for the fences over the last few years. Unfortunately, they have been striking out on their pursuits. Bringing back Anthony won’t move the needle much, but it would add some excitement.

Quite a few other teams could get involved in the Carmelo Anthony sweepstakes besides the Knicks. Among those teams could be the Trail Blazers, Los Angeles Lakers, and possibly even the Miami Heat.

Expect to hear more rumors surrounding Anthony in the coming days with free agency set to begin on Friday. A return to the Knicks may be in the cards and it would be fun to see.
