Miami Heat could target Kings guard De’Aaron Fox

The Miami Heat have long been planning to pursue Milwaukee Bucks superstar and reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo next offseason. However, if that does not end up being an option, they have another player they could target. That player is Sacramento Kings point guard De’Aaron Fox.

According to a report from Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Fox could become a priority target for the Heat next offseason.

Fox would be a very intriguing addition for the Heat. Jimmy Butler needs a legitimate star running mate and the Kings’ point guard would be just that. He would provide a dynamic offensive ability and top-notch creation.

During the 2019-20 NBA season with the Kings, Fox ended up averaging 21.1 points per game to go along with 6.8 assists and 3.8 rebounds. He shot 48 percent from the floor, but only shot 29.2 percent from three-point range. Those number show why the Heat would be interested.

Obviously, that is an area that Fox will need to improve to take the next step as a scorer. Guards who are unable to shoot are not able to be the massive scoring threats that others can. Fox is a dynamic scorer when he gets to the point, but developing a three-point shot would make him lethal.

Despite his shortcoming as a perimeter shooter, the Heat would still love to have Fox’s skill-set on their roster. For now, they are expected to end up re-signing Goran Dragic in free agency. Tyler Herro is also capable of taking on a big role as a point guard.

This will be something to keep a close eye on. With the Kings taking Tyrese Haliburton, they do not have to spend huge money to keep De’Aaron Fox if they choose to go a different route. Sacramento could very well pay Fox though.

Expect to hear a ton of rumors about De’Aaron Fox in the coming months. If he does become available, the Heat will be one of the top landing spots for him.
