The Atlanta Hawks have not been a contender in the Eastern Conference for quite some time. However, they now have Trae Young leading their franchise and it appears that they are going to be aggressive this offseason. At this point in time, Danilo Gallinari and Rajon Rondo could be additions.
According to a report from Marc Stein of the New York Times, the Hawks are currently viewed as the front-runners to sign both Gallinari and Rondo when free agency opens.
Needless to say, this would make for a very intriguing offseason for the Hawks. Being able to sign two high-profile free agents to play around Young would be a huge step in the right direction for Atlanta.
Gallinari would be an especially intriguing addition for the team this offseason. He had another solid season with the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2019-20, averaging 18.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. In addition to those numbers, he shot 43.8 percent from the floor overall and 40.5 percent from the three-point line.
Those numbers would look really good for the Hawks in the front-court. They could easily play him at the power forward position alongside John Collins.
As for Rondo, he averaged 7.1 points, 5.0 assists, and 3.0 rebounds per game. He also chipped in just under a steal per contest.
Both of these players would provide Young with the kind of support he needs. The Hawks have been building the right way and they are finally in a position to go for the playoffs. These two moves would absolutely help them towards that goal.
Expect to hear more rumors surrounding the Hawks, Danilo Gallinari, and Rajon Rondo in the coming hours and days. Rondo is also interested in joining the Clippers and Gallinari has been rumored to have interest from the Heat and Mavericks.
Only time will tell, but Hawks fans should be very excited about this report.
