Five contenders emerge as trade suitors for Pelicans’ George Hill

The New Orleans Pelicans just acquired veteran guard George Hill in the blockbuster trade that sent Jrue Holiday to the Milwaukee Bucks. Now, it appears that they could look to flip Hill. At this point in time, five contenders have come forward with interest in acquiring him.

According to a report from NBA reporter Gery Woelfel, the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Golden State Warriors, Boston Celtics, and Miami Heat all have interested in bringing Hill on board.

Hill would be a solid addition for any of those teams. He isn’t going to be a starter for a championship contender, but he could be an important role player.

Last season with the Bucks, Hill ended up averaging 9.4 points per game to go along with 3.1 assists and 3.0 rebounds. He shot 51.6 percent from the floor overall and knocked down 46 percent of his three-point attempts.

At 34 years old, Hill is in the final stages of his career. He is still capable of playing at a high level and is still a quality two-way player. Hill can play above average perimeter defense and can also spread the floor on the offensive end of the court.

If the Pelicans do choose to move him, which seems likely, they won’t get much in return. They would likely be happy with a second-round pick. Hill will be owed nearly $9.6 million for the 2020-21 season, which could complicate a trade a bit.

All of that being said, it will be interesting to see what the Pelicans end up doing with George Hill. He may not be a starter anymore, but every championship team needs a quality and consistent bench.

Expect to hear plenty more rumors surrounding the Pelicans and Hill over the next 48 hours. New Orleans will likely choose to move him and these five teams are all going to pursue if that ends up being the case.
