NBA insider weighs in on likelihood of Bradley Beal trade

The Washington Wizards enter the NBA offseason with a need to build a competitive roster with Bradley Beal and John Wall as their franchise-cornerstones. Could the Miami Heat find themselves in a position to land Beal via trade?

According to The Athletic’s Fred Katz, there is ‘no way’ the Wizards trade Bradley Beal during the NBA offseason— making it clear the Miami Heat do not have a trade package to get it done.

The Wizards do not face a need to have to trade Beal during the NBA offseason. He signed a two-year, $71.76 million contract extension that will begin in 2021-22— meaning they can be patient with how they approach the whole situation.

There is a real case to be made for the Wizards to trade Beal this offseason in order to position themselves for a loaded 2021 NBA Draft class. The long-term benefit of capitalizing on Beal’s trade value now makes plenty of sense unless Washington believes they can lure an elite talent to play with him.

The torn Achilles injury that John Wall has recovered from made it quite difficult for the Wizards to compete as of late. Beal was the only playmaking option in their offense while their defense had almost no interior resistance to offer opponents in the paint.

Last season, Bradley Beal may have no receive hardware for his performance, but it was truly sensational. He posted averages of 30.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 6.1 assists— trailing only James Harden on the NBA leaderboard for scoring average.
