The New Orleans Pelicans entered the NBA offseason with an objective to trade Jrue Holiday. With the goal of an Eastern Conference contender as the landing spot, the Milwaukee Bucks stepped up to get it done.
According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Pelicans receive Eric Bledsoe, George Hill, and two future NBA Draft pick swaps along with three 1st round picks in exchange for Holiday.
The Bucks sought to trade Bledsoe and had discussions with other NBA teams prior to finalizing this deal for Holiday. Moving on from his unfavorable contract is a clear benefit and turning that spending into Holiday is all the better.
The clear objective for the Bucks is to appeal to Giannis Antetokounmpo as the deadline to agree to the supermax extension looms. It remains to be seen if Milwaukee will be successful in their efforts, but

For the Pelicans, it’s clear the focus is to build around Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson. With Holiday being considerably older than their franchise-cornerstones, it made the most sense to trade him. Managing to land a haul of NBA Draft picks goes a long way.
