Rajon Rondo is ‘focused’ on joining the Los Angeles Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers will look to improve their roster around Kawhi Leonard and Paul George during the NBA offseason. The point guard position remains a clear-need.

According to ESPN’s Frank Isola, Rajon Rondo remains focused on potentially signing with the Clippers for what could be the mid-level exception.

With the Lakers agreeing to a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder to land Dennis Schroder, there isn’t a need for Los Angeles to re-sign Rondo. Now, the two-time NBA champion will need to find a new landing spot for the upcoming season.

The classic case of competing for an NBA title or going for the most money appears to be facing Rajon Rondo. The Clippers appear to have the greatest opportunity for him to make an impact while competing at a high-level. That’s an option certainly to watch.

The Clippers need a point guard that can handle the ball and focus on getting favorable shot attempts for both Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. Patrick Beverley is a respectable role player, but his strength isn’t to be a floor general for an elite team.

A critical benefit for the Los Angeles Clippers of signing Rajon Rondo is that he is an impactful on-ball defender— the main attribute that Beverley brings to the table. Gaining high-level passing without a decline on defense is a major plus.
