Mavericks to meet with Garrett Temple when free agency opens

The Dallas Mavericks took a big step forward last season under the leadership of Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis. They made the playoffs as the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference and were competitive with the Los Angeles Clippers. Now, they are looking to improve their roster to compete more and Garrett Temple has become a potential target.

According to a report from Ross of Legion Hoops, the Mavericks are expected to meet with Temple when free agency opens up.

Temple isn’t the kind of free agency target that is going to impress fans, but he is the kind of player that every contender needs. He works hard, brings energy, and can score the ball when asked too.

Last season, Temple had a solid all-around year with the Brooklyn Nets. He ended up averaging 10.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. Temple shot 32.9 percent from the three-point line, although he has always been a streaky shooter.

At 34 years old, Temple is a mid-tier free agent that won’t break the bank. The Mavericks could bring him in on a team-friendly contract to play an important bench role.

Rumors have been swirling that the Mavericks could look to make a sizable move this offseason. Zach LaVine and Victor Oladipo are two names that have come up as potential targets. DeMar DeRozan is another target that has been mentioned some with the Mavericks having interest.

No matter what the Mavericks choose to do this offseason, they are headed in the right direction. Doncic is one of the top superstars in the game. Garrett Temple wouldn’t move the needle much, but he would be a solid addition.

Expect to hear quite a few more rumors coming out surrounding the Mavericks in the coming days.
