5 teams who must make a run at Serge Ibaka in free agency

1. Miami Heat

The Heat have some situations to watch with Meyers Leonard and Kelly Olynyk. Leonard is entering the final year of his contract and could look for an extension. Olynyk has a player option this season and will most likely opt in, but he could be used as a trade piece.

Miami might pass on Serge Ibaka if they want to move forward with these two players, but he seems like a perfect fit for the team. The defensive duo of Ibaka and Bam Adebayo would be one of the best front-courts in the league.

Ibaka can stretch his game out to the mid-range and beyond, which would help the pair play together. Ibaka has been on the Heat’s radar before. Since they added Jimmy Butler, the visions should be clearer.

This will not be a long-term contract because Miami might have their eyes on bigger players in the future, but it would help immediately.

The Heat are coming off of an NBA Finals appearance and they want to stay at that level. This is a move to solidify the roster and make sure that they stay at that championship level for present.
