Why the Trade Would Benefit the Toronto Raptors
The Toronto Raptors would be giving up one of their best players in this deal but it is deeper than that. Trading Pascal Siakam would open up cap space and would allow them to bring back Fred VanVleet and potentially add a big name player in 2021.
It is rare to make a trade for the top pick in the NBA Draft. The Raptors would be in a position to draft Anthony Edwards or LaMelo Ball. This would give them a young talent for Kyle Lowry to mentor and eventually take over when he decides to retire.
Both Jarrett Culver and Josh Okogie are players with high-ceilings who can be role players on a team looking to compete for a title. If this deal is made, it is clear that the Raptors would have to do some work in bringing back their roster from last season.
After signing an extension, it is hard to imagine Siakam being sent somewhere else, but the Raptors could benefit from looking to sell high. If the top pick is involved along with some promising prospects, Toronto might have their ears open.
