DeMar DeRozan was supposed to replace Kawhi Leonard as the franchise player of the San Antonio Spurs but that did not exactly work out. Leonard went on to win an NBA championship with the Toronto Raptors and DeRozan was part of a Spurs’ team that did not make the postseason for the first time in 22 years.
On top of all of that, DeRozan is allegedly unhappy in San Antonio. This means he could be on the move sooner than later. DeRozan is now 31-years old and decided to opt-in for his $27.7 million player option for the 2020-21 season.
It would be silly not to. If he truly does not want to be in San Antonio, then he will not be next season. DeRozan disputed the claim on Instagram but what else is he supposed to do?
The Spurs are in a position to rebuild. They have young players like Dejounte Murray who are ready to take over. Also, the Spurs will pick 11th in the upcoming draft. There is a chance for the team to load up on draft picks and possibly land more in a DeRozan deal.
DeRozan is one of the stars to keep an eye on this NBA offseason. If he is truly unhappy and on the trading block, these five teams could make the most sense for a trade.
