The Boston Celtics were just one series win away from the NBA Finals this season, but couldn’t quite knock off the Miami Heat. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are great pieces to build around, but the Celtics could look to improve more this offseason. Both Jrue Holiday and Myles Turner have been mentioned as potential trade targets.
Granted, being able to pull off a trade for two players the caliber of Holiday and Turner would be tough. However, there is a way that it could happen.
Aaron Kellerstrass of Pelican Debrief came up with a very intriguing three-team trade between the Indiana Pacers, New Orleans Pelicans, and Celtics.
In the scenario, the Celtics received Myles Turner and Jrue Holiday while the Pacers landed Gordon Hayward and the No. 39 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. Meanwhile, the Pelicans would receive an intriguing haul— including Kemba Walker and the No. 7 selection.
That’s a lot to digest for all teams involved. For the Celtics, however, moving Walker, Hayward, and the No. 7 overall pick would make a lot of sense. Getting back Holiday and Turner makes this trade a major win.
Would the Pacers and Pelicans both be on board with this trade? Indiana has been rumored to be open to moving Turner and have had an interest in Hayward. The Pelicans getting a star point guard and the No. 7 pick would entice them as well.
On the outside looking in, this trade looks acceptable for the Celtics and the other two teams involved. It would immediately make them one of the top NBA Finals contenders for the 2020-21 season.
Boston has to make a move or two if they want to win the Eastern Conference next season. This is the kind of move that can shift the balance of power.
Expect to hear plenty of trade rumors continue to surround the Celtics as the offseason moves forward. Myles Turner and Jrue Holiday are without question two names to watch and this trade would get the job done.
