The Los Angeles Lakers are set to make a substantial change at the point guard position by trading for Dennis Schroder from the Oklahoma City Thunder. That will result in Rajon Rondo’s departure and there are already a few potential suitors in NBA free agency.
According to Los Angeles Times’ Brad Turner, two potential landing spots for Rondo include the Atlanta Hawks and Los Angeles Clippers.
There is a clear need for the Clippers to add a contributor at the point guard position that can run the offense and put Paul George and Kawhi Leonard in spots for favorable shots. Not experiencing a decline in defensive impact is important and that would occur.
The fit with the Hawks would be quite strange when considering there isn’t a clear pathway for him to start. It would likely be in more of a mentorship role coming off the bench behind Trae Young. Unless there would be a substantial contract offer, it’s difficult to envision this happening.

Rondo, 34, has already won multiple championships during his NBA career, so signing with a contender may not be a priority for him. The Clippers likely would need to come with an attractive contract offer for this exact reason.
Rajon Rondo is coming off a respectable season with averages of 7.1 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists in 20.5 minutes per game. He raised his game during the NBA playoffs and managed to be a pivotal contributor to the Los Angeles Lakers winning the championship.
