Miami Heat remain ‘very focused’ on pursuing this free agent

The Miami Heat came up short in the NBA Finals but will look to bolster their roster. One player they have been linked to for quite some time and remain is Oklahoma City Thunder forward Danilo Gallinari.

According to Five Reasons Sports Network, the Heat remains ‘very focused’ on acquiring Gallinari and is investigating several ways to get it done.

Danilo Gallinari played a pivotal role in the Thunder pulling off a surprise run to the playoffs in a loaded Western Conference. He averaged 18.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.9 assists while converting at a 40.5% clip from beyond the arc.

When stacked up with the 54 players that recorded at least 1,000 scoring possessions last season, Gallinari (1.142 PPP) trailed only TJ Warren (1.145 PPP) in points per possession. That level of scoring efficiency is something the Heat could strongly benefit from adding.

The primary objective for the Heat has remained clear. Miami is fully locked in on the loaded free agency class that will be featured next NBA offseason— particularly Giannis Antetokounmpo.

If the Heat wants to land Gallinari without adding multiple years of salary, they may need to get creative with how they pull it off. It’s difficult to envision him not wanting to be overcompensated on a one-year deal to make up for the lack of long-term security.

There sill be no shortage of competitors to the Miami Heat when it comes to signing Danilo Gallinari. The Dallas Mavericks have been linked to the veteran forward and will have an attractive opportunity to offer playing alongside Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis.
