Trade market for Russell Westbrook has been ‘slow-developing’

The Houston Rockets will be tasked with trading Russell Westbrook during the NBA offseason. It remains to be seen which team will end up making the move to land the former MVP.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the marketplace for a potential Westbrook trade has been described as ‘slow developing.’

There have been some teams that already have been connected to Westbrook with trade interest. The main team has been the Charlotte Hornets— who hold the No. 3 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. The expiring contracts they have to offer are an attractive option.

Many have pointed to the New York Knicks as a possible trade suitor for Westbrook as well. The team has been in a state of purgatory for quite some time and the thought is that acquiring the All-Star guard would bring excitement and a possible playoff push.

There are other teams that have been thought of as options but not necessary directly linked— including the Orlando Magic, Detroit Pistons, and even the Milwaukee Bucks, to an extent.

The trade landscape around the NBA appears to be down for Westbrook similar to how it was for Chris Paul last offseason. A very strong campaign leading the Oklahoma City Thunder to a playoff appearance was more than enough to become a positive asset once again.

Playing in a role that will enable Russell Westbrook to command the offense as the floor general like his time with the Thunder would go a long way to change the narrative about him. Leading a team to a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference could be the clearest pathway.
