Why the Trade Works for the Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers will need to do all they can to maximize their chances of repeating as NBA champions with LeBron James and Anthony Davis next season. The Western Conference is only going to get tougher, so the Lakers will need to add talent to their team.
When thinking about ideal trade targets, there certainly are flashier names than Evan Fournier. However, there aren’t many options on an expiring deal and can make quite as cohesive of a complementary impact.
Fournier is a highly efficient spot-up shooter with the ability to knock down catch-and-shoot jumpers even when coming off pindowns and after receiving the ball in handoff scenarios. Now, imagine that alongside LeBron James and not in the Orlando Magic’s half-court offense.
On top of all of the advantages Fournier provides as an off-ball threat, he has an effective pull-up jumper and is a reliable finisher. That’s the ideal secondary pick-and-roll threat the Lakers need to take pressure off LeBron James and to give defenses different looks.
