Why the Trade Works for the Orlando Magic
It will be a real uphill battle for the Orlando Magic to make the playoffs during the upcoming NBA season. Jonathan Isaac is set to be sidelined due to a torn ACL and the team was already on the fringe of being able to be one of the eight finalists in the Eastern Conference.
Evan Fournier is set to play on an expiring contract and if the Magic are looking to rebuild, trading him for value now would be a logical choice. It would also help further their ability to land a premier pick in an attractive 2021 NBA Draft class.
By trading Fournier, the Magic would also have an opportunity to provide additional playmaking opportunity for Markelle Fultz and a 2020 NBA Draft prospect in a transition year. That will help provide insight into the potential of the younger pieces on the team.
The Magic are trying to trade up in the 2020 NBA Draft and have included Aaron Gordon in those trade packages to get it done. If that’s the case, a rebuild would be the best option and they would acquire more assets to include in a potential trade to complete a deal.
