1. New York Knicks
Bobby Portis, Wayne Ellington, and Taj Gibson have team options for 2020-2021. The Knicks do not need any of those players. They have plenty of cap space and a glaring need all over the floor.
New York has two young players that they are building around in R.J. Barrett and Mitchell Robinson. What they do not have is veteran leadership or anyone to complement their core pieces. VanVleet would come in as a mentor and immediately take over as a foundational player— as he has done with the Toronto Raptors.
That is what is needed in New York. VanVleet and Robinson would be a lethal pick-and-roll combination. Robinson is a big that can play above the rim on both ends and VanVleet is aggressive when going to the basket.
Some may not like the price tag that will come with VanVleet but the Knicks have the space and need to use it somewhere. Whether it is a trade or a big free-agent signing, the Knicks need a player and need one soon.
