The Boston Celtics are in the midst of bolstering their roster to make a run for a championship. The center position continues to be problematic and they could be targeting two prospects in the 2020 NBA Draft as a potential answer.
According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Celtics are trying to trade up to get into the top-10 of the 2020 NBA Draft order in order to land Onyeka Okongwu or James Wiseman.
“I’ve heard Boston is looking to upgrade in the frontcourt. I’ve heard they’re trying to get into the top-10 to get Onyeka Okongwu or even James Wiseman.”
The Celtics have three 1st round selections in the 2020 NBA Draft and certainly don’t need to be adding all of those prospects. Using a trade up as a means for consolidation is a great option and it would help address a position of need in the process.
Both Onyeka Okongwu and James Wiseman appear to be intriguing prospects that could make a real impact. Being able to add another prospect to their core could go a long way in building a championship contender around Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
Okongwu has a real ability to guard multiple positions and is a reliable interior play finisher. He’s the more attainable of the two options. Meanwhile, Wiseman has great physical tools standing at 7-foot-1 with a 7-foot-4 wingspan in addition to his great athleticism.
