The Golden State Warriors will look to surround Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green with the right pieces to win an NBA championship next season. Could a trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers for Kevin Love be an option?
According to Legion Hoops Ross, the Warriors and Cavaliers have held trade talks on a deal centered around Kevin Love— sending Draymond Green to a third team.
It’s difficult to envision the Warriors choosing to move on from Draymond Green when considering the importance he holds to their defense. Additionally, his passing ability is a fundamental element to Golden State’s half-court attack.
Green has received an unprecedentedly long offseason to rest and be ready to make a major impact after years of extended playoff runs. He has also been working on fine-tuning his three-point shooting ability with adjustments to his shooting mechanics.
There is a real possibility the Warriors’ defense would fall apart at an alarming level by swapping out Green with Love. While the shooting would be an improvement, the overall situation would be a downgrade.

If this NBA trade scenario were to occur, a third team with a stretch-five would be an ideal landing spot for Green. The Minnesota Timberwolves do have Karl-Anthony Towns to stretch the floor and hold a need for a centerpiece of their defense.
The Cleveland Cavaliers do seem set on trading Kevin Love this NBA offseason, and for good reason. They are in the midst of a rebuild and don’t need big veteran contracts on the books. However, will the Golden State Warriors be the landing spot?
