Why the Trade Benefits the Los Angeles Clippers
The Kawhi Leonard-Paul George experiment was a complete failure in the Los Angeles Clippers’ first postseason experience. It might be too early to jump ship on the idea but they already got rid of Doc Rivers as head coach and George could be next.
This trade works because it allows Leonard to be the clear No. 1 option on the team. George is a score first player and needs the ball in his hands. This was a problem come the postseason. Beal has experience playing with another star on the roster and being the second option.
Beal would complement Leonard nicely on the offensive end by providing his versatile scoring punch in ways George came up short. Also, the Clippers would get back some NBA Draft capital that they gave up in the George trade. They would get a top-10 pick along with future selections.
Los Angeles has a chance to add some bench pieces and draft picks in this deal. This would help the Clippers moving forward especially come postseason time when Leonard could completely take over.
