Knicks, Thunder discussing a trade for Dennis Schroder

The New York Knicks are going to be a team looking to make major moves this offseason. Russell Westbrook has been talked about as a potential trade target, as has Victor Oladipo. Another name to keep an eye on could be Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Dennis Schroder.

According to a report from Legion Hoops Ross, the Knicks and Thunder are engaged in discussions surrounding Schroder.

Schroder would not be the flashy addition that many believe the Knicks are looking to make. However, he is coming off of a big-time season with the Thunder. He is the kind of player who flies under the radar, but can make a major difference on the court.

During the 2019-20 NBA season with the Thunder, Schroder ended up averaging 18.9 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game. He shot 46.9 percent from the floor and knocked down 38.5 percent from the three-point line.

At 27 years old, Schroder is in his prime and is without question a quality addition for anyone who decides to acquire him. He only has one year left on his deal, which gives teams a lot of flexibility if they choose to trade for him.

For the Knicks, acquiring Schroder would give them a starting point guard. They are looking to bring in players who can help them win now. Schroder wouldn’t be the star that the Knicks need, but would be a good start.

Another reason this could be a good move for the Knicks would be the fact that the Thunder aren’t going to charge an unreasonable price for Schroder. It might take a late first-round pick or a piece returning to Oklahoma City, but that is well worth the value.

Expect to hear plenty of rumors surrounding Dennis Schroder as the offseason continues forward. The Los Angeles Lakers have also expressed interest in acquiring him. This is worth keeping a close eye on.
