Potential suitors for Russell Westbrook trade with Houston Rockets emerge

The Houston Rockets could soon face a potential reality that involves needing to trade Russell Westbrook and James Harden— similar to the Oklahoma City Thunder last summer. Which teams around the NBA could make a play for Westbrook?

According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, the Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, and Phoenix Suns are all teams that have the necessary assets to be able to pull off a trade for Harden.

Many experts seem to have soured on their perception of Westbrook similar to the situation Chris Paul faced last NBA offseason. Now, Paul has real trade value and managed to earn a spot on the All-NBA Second while leading the Thunder to a playoff spot.

The best landing spot for Westbrook appears to be a team that is ready to contend immediately. The Clippers and Lakers are fascinating possibilities but would not have the best assets to offer the Rockets in a potential trade.

The most viable of options to execute a trade for Westbrook does indeed appear to be an Eastern Conference team seeking a star to make a playoff push. The one-man wrecking crew already has a track record of carrying the Thunder to a playoff spot in the Western Conference.

It seems that if Russell Westbrook were to want to play elsewhere in the NBA, it would be synched up with the same desire from James Harden. That makes the type of trade package the team would need from a potential suitor be conducive to a long-term rebuild.
