Why the Trade Benefits the Philadelphia 76ers
James Harden might be the centerpiece of this deal but the Philadelphia 76ers getting Robert Covington back is an important part of the deal. There were many fans unhappy when they sent Covington away and this would make them happy to get him back.
Covington is a true ‘3-and-D’ player. He can give the 76ers a much needed three-point threat while contributing on the defensive end. As for Harden, he would act as the late-game option in Philadelphia just as he has during his tenure with the Houston Rockets.
Come playoff time, the 76ers lack a scoring threat to take over a game late. Simmons can score but his lack of three-point ability makes him one-dimensional. Harden can do it all and would fit in well with Doc Rivers on the sideline.
There have been locker room concerns with the 76ers’ core talents and the best course of action may be to split up the Simmons-Embiid duo to maximize results. Doing so while landing a recent MVP is the ideal way to do it.
