NBA GM reveals the perfect trade target for the Warriors

The Golden State Warriors were one of the worst teams in the entire NBA during the 2019-20 season. Injuries to Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson completely knocked them out of contention. However, looking ahead to next season, they are once again expected to be in the NBA Finals picture.

Due to the struggles they had this season, the Warriors now hold the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. They could use that pick to select a young talent like big man James Wiseman, or they could look to deal it for a current player who would fit nicely with their core of players.

One NBA general manager, who requested to remain anonymous, revealed the perfect offseason trade target for the Warriors.

“If Golden State wants to make a sizable move, Aaron Gordon would be the ideal piece. He fits the up-tempo style of offense, can shoot the ball, and his athleticism would give the Warriors another ripple to their offense. Orlando seems interested in moving Gordon and Golden State should check in.”

During the 2019-20 NBA season with the Magic, Gordon ended up averaging 14.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game. He shot 43.7 percent from the floor overall and knocked down 30.8 percent from the three-point line.

Gordon saw his role with the Magic decrease sharply this season. It also decreased in the 2018-19 NBA season.

Orlando should absolutely look to move on from Gordon this offseason. He simply doesn’t fit the direction they are heading. With the Warriors, however, Gordon could get back to being a high-flying scorer.

At just 25 years old, Gordon still has two years left on his deal. If the Warriors were to acquire him, he would give them a perfect fit at the power forward position. Curry and Thompson would still run the offense, but Gordon could take some pressure off of them.

Golden State may not end up making a big-time trade. They could instead focus on building around Curry and Thompson. Wiseman would be an excellent fit with the No. 2 pick and would give the Warriors the big man they have been needing.

Expect to hear a ton of rumors surrounding the Warriors and Aaron Gordon this offseason. The two sides may not end up coming together, but it is certainly intriguing to think about.
