The Brooklyn Nets will face the task of surrounding Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving with talented pieces to compete for an NBA championship. Durant already has his eyes on a particular free agent.
According to Forbes’ Mike Mazzeo, Durant has been recruiting Ibaka to join him on the Nets when he reaches NBA free agency this offseason.
“Kevin Durant has been recruiting close friend Serge Ibaka to join the Brooklyn Nets as a free agent, according to league sources,” Mazzeo wrote.
“Durant and Ibaka forged a strong relationship while playing together in Oklahoma City. But the veteran Ibaka, who made $23.3 million last season, would have to take a significant discount to join the Nets.”
The appeal of adding a talent like Serge Ibaka is clear for the Nets. A stretch big that can protect the paint and has mobility out on the perimeter is a helpful piece for just about any team to add into the mix. That type of talent would bring the best out Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.
It would be fascinating to see how the Nets would configure their personnel when considering DeAndre Jordan and Jarrett Allen already are on the roster. Ibaka would seemingly slot in at the power forward spot— making it easier to match up with Anthony Davis and the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Nets will have no shortage of intriguing potential lineup combinations due to the versatility of their talents. Durant has the size to slide over to the four spot and Ibaka could man the middle of the unit to match up with spread units in their own version of the “Death Lineup.”
It will be fascinating to see how NBA free agency plays out for the Brooklyn Nets. They have no shortage of appeal for veteran talents looking to win a championship by playing alongside Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.
