Three NBA stars emerging as potential trade targets for Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks put together a truly impressive campaign led by Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis. They will look to add to their personnel and some NBA stars have emerged as potential trade targets— Spencer Dinwiddie, Jrue Holiday, and Victor Oladipo.

According to ActionNetwork.com’s Matt Moore, the Mavericks are interested in three stars who could be moved during the NBA offseason.

“Specifically, there is thought to be interest from Dallas in Indiana Pacers guard Victor Oladipo, Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie and New Orleans Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday,” Moore wrote. “All indications that they’re looking for a wing upgrade to pair with Doncic.”

After exceeding expectations in 2019-20 and challenging the Los Angeles Clippers in the NBA playoffs, making a play for a star player is an intriguing thought. However, the Mavericks must be careful about how a potential acquisition would impact its historic offense build around Luka Doncic.

The fit for each of the stars linked to the Mavericks in this latest NBA report is concerning aside from Jrue Holiday. Both Spencer Dinwiddie and Victor Oladipo have failed to provide a strong impact alongside high-usage ball handlers in their career.

The Mavericks would receive a solid ball-handler and another lane penetration threat that can get to the rim in Holiday. However, his lack of a reliable catch-and-shoot jumper is something that would limit Dallas’s attack but his defensive impact would overcompensate for that.

No matter what the Dallas Mavericks attempt to pull off during the NBA offseason, there’s a lot to like about their standing in the Western Conference. It’s just important to note slow that progress done by making the wrong move.
