Phoenix Suns have discussed making a trade for Chris Paul

The Oklahoma City Thunder widely is expected to trade Chris Paul during the NBA offseason. There will be no shortage of potential interested suitors. Among them has been the Phoenix Suns in an effort to capitalize on the momentum Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton have established.

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst and Tim Bontemps, the Suns have discussed executing a trade for Paul to pair him with Devin Booker.

The rationale behind the Suns’ interest in trading for Paul is quite simple. He’s coming off an All-NBA Second-Team campaign where he led the Thunder to the fifth seed in a tough Western Conference without playing alongside another All-Star.

The Suns already have Devin Booker to shoulder the bulk of the scoring load as their primary option. This will enable Paul to run the half-court offense with surgical precision— bringing the best out of complementary talents like Deandre Ayton, Mikal Bridges, and Cam Johnson.

It’s rare to find a point guard that can only facilitate and defend at an elite level in the NBA. Let’s not forget, Paul achieves those results while being able to efficiently convert on catch-and-shoot jumpers and thrives in shot creation situations.

After pulling off an impressive 8-0 run in the NBA bubble, the Phoenix Suns clearly are trending in the right direction. Trading for a talent like Chris Paul would enable them to make the leap into being a playoff squad. Meanwhile, the Oklahoma City Thunder would start rebuilding.
