Jarrett Allen Expects Contract Similar To Clint Capela

It’s a new era for the Brooklyn Nets. No longer is the organization is a feel-good story led by D’Angelo Russell and Caris LeVert seeking to take the next step. That next step is here with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant set to take the floor together in 2020-21.

One of the conditions that has seemingly been attached to the Irving-Durant duo’s arrival with the Nets has been DeAndre Jordan. During the NBA’s previous offseason, Jordan signed a four-year, $39.6 million contract and is set to earn just under $10.4 million during the upcoming season.

Where does that leave Jarrett Allen in the Nets’ plans? That remains to be seen. However, what is known is that ESPN’s Bobby Marks stated how Allen’s plan is to seek a contract similar to the deal Clint Capela received from the Houston Rockets— a five-year deal worth $90 million.

“I would think it’s hard for me to extend him to that type of number,” Marks said.

It’s difficult to envision the Nets being willing to pay such a hefty amount dedicated to the center position. When factoring in how Jordan is the preferred talent for Durant and Irving, it’s even more difficult to justify paying Allen.

Exploring the trade market around the NBA for the young shot-blocker appears to the best course of action for the Nets this offseason. The team is likely going need to embrace Jordan to appeal to their superstars. Gaining value at another position seems to be the ideal solution.
