Why the Los Angeles Lakers Should Do It
Now is the time for the Los Angeles Lakers to do whatever it takes to remain NBA champions. The formula is already apparent with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but pulling off a title run next season will require more firepower.
The Lakers would benefit from adding another reliable scoring option that can get the job done in key areas. DeRozan was highly efficient last season in pick-and-roll, isolation, and post-ups— all of which, if added to Los Angeles’ half-court attack, would make them very tough to stop.
There are additional layers of half-court offense where DeRozan can pick his spots and attack a defense. He can get downhill coming off pindowns, if needed. Or even get the job done using handoffs, or simply drive off the catch in spot-up.
The Lakers would be able to rip apart opposing defenses from two ways with DeRozan being a secondary perimeter playmaker— making it tough to hide underwhelming defenders. LeBron James would get more opportunities to rest throughout games as well.
