Why the San Antonio Spurs Should Do It
The San Antonio Spurs have grown accustomed to doing what it takes from a roster construction standpoint to remain a competitive organization. In a loaded Western Conference, that’s simply not an option anymore.
It’s clear the Spurs must undergo a full rebuild and re-tooling isn’t going to net a playoff spot. The first step to undergoing this process would be to trade DeRozan if he were to opt-in for the final year of his player option— netting some return as opposed to letting him walk next NBA offseason.
There is a real benefit to this trade package for the Spurs. Kyle Kuzma is a young player that has shown some intriguing signs at times with the Los Angeles Lakers and could be afforded a larger role with the Spurs.
The inclusion of Danny Green in this trade package would help the Spurs to open up salary cap space next offseason. In the meantime, he would be able to provide needed veteran leadership for the rest of the roster.
