Rudy Gobert
Lastly, the Houston Rockets could look to add Rudy Gobert if he were to become available. The Utah Jazz had their share of issues last season after both Gobert and Donovan Mitchell tested positive for Covid-19.
The duo seemed to repair their relationship, and the Jazz made an excellent effort in the NBA bubble playoffs, although they came up short. The loaded Western Conference has fielded plenty of tough matchups simply too much for them to overcome in recent years.
If the Jazz were to look to trade Gobert, it would likely be rooted in the fact that he’ll be a free agent next offseason. Looking to the future, will Utah be comfortable paying a hefty contract extension to Gobert despite the team’s inability to make it deep?
The Rockets could acquire Gobert for at least the 2020-21 season, and make a run in the West with the trio of James Harden, Russell Westbrook, and Gobert. The Jazz might feel uneasy about dealing him to Houston, but this one likely only happens if the Jazz are concerned about Gobert departing as a free agent.
