76ers Receive: Gordon Hayward

Celtics Receive: Al Horford, 2020 1st Round Pick (No. 21 overall), 2020 2nd Round Pick (from Hawks)

If there is one team that needs to dump a salary more than the Sixers, it is the Boston Celtics. Gordon Hayward is a free agent following the 2020-2021 season, but he is owed $34.1 million this season. This would be a short-term commitment for Philadelphia.

In this deal, a first-round pick creeps back into the equation. Horford has three years left on his deal compared to just one for Hayward. That would leave the Celtics with a longer commitment for a player that they had at one time and did not re-sign.

On the other hand, the draft pick is late in the first-round, which makes it easier to part ways with. Ultimately, desperation by both sides would give this deal legs.

The Celtics are in need of a big man. Their center position is extremely thin and they could use a player like Horford, who was very successful in a Celtics’ uniform.
